Who is this qualification for?

This qualification is designed for experienced managers who both manage other managers and have some responsibility for developing and implementing strategy in their area of the organisation. It aims to equip learners with leadership capability, business acumen and practical management skills to show they have what it takes to succeed at this level and prepare for more management responsibility.

Learners can take four mandatory units that form the core of this qualification - developing and evaluating operational plans for learners’ own area of responsibility, providing leadership and direction for their own area of responsibility, planning change in their own area of responsibility, and working productively with colleagues and stakeholders. They can then work with their employer and training provider to find the best fit from a wide range of other skills-focused units.

Structure
• Induction – one hour
• Tutorial support – at least two hours
• Four mandatory units from Group 1
• Choice of optional  units from Group 2, which contains units at level 4, 5 and 6
• Minimum of 30 credits from Group 2
• Minimum of 30 credits at level 5

Rules of combination
Four mandatory units from Group 1 (total credit value 23)
Minimum of 30 credits from Group 2
Minimum of 30 credits must be achieved at Level 5


Assessment
ILM NVQs are assessed using evidence from the workplace.
This could include observation, professional discussion, questioning/interviews/witness testimony, physical products of work (such as plans, reports, correspondence etc) or other methods allowed within the QCF all at the learner’s workplace. Please note simulation is not allowed.
 
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements however learners:
• will undertake an initial assessment to determine the appropriate NVQ level and optional units
• should normally be employed in a team leading role to gather evidence from the workplace for assessment
• who are not currently in employment may be able to join the qualification if they are able to gather evidence of recent middle management experience in a paid or voluntary capacity from within a period of three years of registration.
