Levels 3, 4 and 5 NVQ in Management |

Aims |
|
· To provide ongoing opportunities for staff involved in the team leading/management functions to develop their practical competence in the workplace to nationally determined and recognised standards |
|
· To motivate participants to engage in developmental activity, based on their existing competence, personal career goals and the demands of the workplace |
|
· To enable employers to identify participants’ current potential and their development needs within the team leading/management functions |
|
|
|
Level 3 in Management is for a practising first line manager/junior manager with |
|
· a tightly defined area of responsibility |
|
· some limited opportunity for taking decisions and managing budgets |
|
· responsibility for achieving specific results by using resources effectively, and |
|
· responsibility for allocating work to team members, colleagues or contractors. |
|
|
|
Level 4 in Management is for a practising middle manager with responsibility for |
|
· allocating work to others |
|
· achieving specific results by using resources effectively |
|
· carrying out policy in his/her area of responsibility |
|
· controlling limited financial budgets, and |
|
· contributing to broader activities, such as change programmes and recruitment |
|
|
|
Level 5 in Management is for a senior manager who |
|
· has operational responsibility for substantial programmes and resources |
|
· has a broad span of control |
|
· pro-actively identifies and implements change and quality improvements |
|
· negotiates budgets and contracts, and |
|
· leads high level meetings |
|
|
Entry Requirements |
|
Whilst there are no prior entry requirements in terms of knowledge, attainment or experience, an appropriate knowledge and understanding of underpinning principles of leadership and the management process will need to be demonstrated. |
|
Progression |
|
Successful candidates at all levels may expect to benefit from enhanced career prospects within management and leadership. |
|
|
|
Successful candidates at levels 3 and 4 may progress on to a higher level NVQ – either in management or another appropriate occupational area – provided that their circumstances allow for competence to be demonstrated against the appropriate national occupational standards. |
|
|
|
Alternatively, candidates may choose to progress to a vocationally related programme – in management and leadership or another appropriate occupational area. This option may be preferable where the opportunity to demonstrate competence at a higher level within management is not yet present, but the candidate wishes to begin development and acquisition of relevant knowledge and skills. |
