Apprenticeship

Apprenticeships provide work related training opportunities for your young people.

They offer your staff the chance to gain a National Vocational Qualification up to level 2 (more), plus the skills and knowledge for the job.

The learning is to a structured programme laid down by the industry.

They help your staff to gain additional skills (known as key skills) in communication, application of number; information technology, working with others, and improving own learning.

Advanced Apprenticeship

Advanced Apprenticeships offer a structured learning programme for your young managers and supervisors. The programme is laid down by the industry at national level to National Vocational Qualification level 3 (more) including the technical skills and knowledge needed for their job role.

They help them to gain additional skills (known as key skills) in communication, application of number; information technology, working with others, and improving own learning.

They also offer them the chance to gain a higher-level qualification necessary for management or technician jobs.

What QUALIFICATIONS will they achieve?

There are a variety of qualifications that can be achieved by the Apprentice as well as individual course certificates obtained during training.

Any Apprenticeship must have an outcome of an NVQ 2 or 3, which is a competence-based assessment of ability to carry out a range of tasks.

In addition, there is a strong reliance within Vehicle Maintenance and Repair on Further Education via day release to IPS.

Apprentices normally follow City and Guilds courses.

The outcome qualifications for a Modern Apprentice would be:

        NVQ 2 or

        NVQ 3

Level 1 or 2 Key Skills

City and Guilds or Institute for Motor Industry Technical Certificate

Candidate Recruitment Requirements

Most entrants to Apprenticeships will be 16 or 17 years old and will have completed compulsory education.

Previous experience and qualifications are not required.

Entrants to both Apprenticeships will be employed.

You will be invited for an aptitude test which includes the following tests:

        Verbal Understanding

        Numerical Reasoning

        Mechanical Concepts

        Fault Diagnosis

Those that pass the tests are then put forward to employers for interview

Key Skills

Key Skills are skills that are commonly needed for success in a range of activities in education, training, work and life in general.

Employers have taken a lead in promoting the importance of the key skills for employability.

The three primary key skills units are:

       Communication

       Information Technology

       Application of Number

These are portfolio based and also require an external assessment test

The three wider skills units are:

       Working With Others

       Improving Own Learning and Performance

       Problem Solving

These are portfolio and work based.

Diagnostic tests allow both you and your trainer to identify areas where you are competent and areas where you need further development.
