CRANE SLINGING AND LIFTING TRAINING - LOLER 98
A one day Overhead Crane Slinging and Lifting training course designed to help employers to meet their legal obligations regarding training and competence of employees working with Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) 1998 (LOLER 98).
Course Aims:
To enable trainees to recognize the specific hazards that occur when using overhead crane slinging and lifting techniques and the proper and correct methods to avoid danger. To demonstrate techniques, and for trainees to practice, the correct assessment of loads, the selection of the correct lifting equipment and accessories and the methods and procedures for carrying out the load lift.
Course Duration: 1-day course for a maximum of 6 persons.

Bespoke course dates can be arranged at a day rate and provided sufficient candidates are available.
Course Content: An outline of LOLER 98 & PUWER 98 regulations To understand the application of LOLER 98 in the workplace Crane Safe Working Load (SWL) Pre-use examination and inspection of different types of lifting equipment and accessories (slings, eyebolts, shackles) Lifting equipment and accessories faults and defects Assessment of the load for lifting in terms of mass, shape and make up Slinging techniques and the effect on sling lifting capacity The risks associated with using incorrect or damaged lifting equipment Correct lifting techniques including do's & don'ts. Approved crane signalling methods Slinging the load Taking the lift Raising the load Moving the load Landing the load PPE Safety wear is required for this course and should be, safety boots, hi-viz jacket, safety gloves, hard hat, safety glasses. Training is delivered on-site with practical work on the actual equipment that the trainees will work on. If the crane is cab control, a fully trained operator should be available. The training applies to pendant and remote control operation but the lift must always be vertical from directly above. All client slinging and lifting equipment should comply with LOLER and client Public Liability Insurance should be in date.
A written test is part of the course and assesses knowledge gained during the course. A course completion certificate with the test mark will be issued on completion of the course.
