CPD, continuing professional development, easier to say than do.  IPS is pleased to congratulate two more of its training professionals who have gained the Certificate in Education also known as CertEd.  Nigel Mason manages the Engineering Apprentice first year off the job team and Kerry Jones leads in mechanical maintenance training specialising in hydraulics and pneumatics.  Kerry and Nigel signed up to the CertEd at the same time and supported each other through the programme.  Kerry achieved an additional distinction in gaining the Garnett Award for an outstanding personal development portfolio.  

Kerrys achievement of the Garnett award is doubly appropriate in maintaining a link to technical education and training.  Garnett was the name of one of the original Training Colleges for Technical Teachers opened in 1946 as part of the Ministry of Education's emergency scheme for training teachers.  The College was renamed Garnett College in 1953 after William Garnett, a former Secretary to the London County Council's Technical Education Board.  Garnett College then became one of the founding institutions of the University of Greenwich.
