IPS takes part in the Engineering Education Scheme (England) for the third year

Engineering Education Scheme logo

IPS takes part in the Engineering Education Scheme (England) for the third year in succession working with Kent schools to promote interest in engineering.   The Engineering Education Scheme (England) is a Programme that links teams of four Year 12 students and their teacher with local companies to work on real scientific, engineering and technological problems.  IPS is pleased to link with Gravesend Grammar School in Kent helping future engineers and technologists gain experience and inspiration to make informed choices about their future studies and career.

The Engineering Education Scheme (England) is part of the Royal Academy of Engineering's Best Programme that provides opportunities to explore and develop an enthusiasm for science engineering and technology in schools.

The team will work on a project to create a Materials Impact Test machine involving research into test methods for different materials.  The team, including staff from IPS International Ltd, will spend a three days in a workshop at the University of Kent at Canterbury to build a model of their design.  The project will finish with a celebration event in April also at the University of Kent at Canterbury.

In 2007 IPS partnered with Rainham School for girls where the project was “Supplementary Instrumentation for a Vacuum Forming Machine” and involved the addition of a temperature sensor and a pressure sensor to the school’s existing machine so that the forming conditions can be better understood.

In 2008 IPS then worked with Cleeve Park School in Sidcup which has Specialist Engineering College status.  The project was to create a scheme for energy saving throughout the school particularly where rooms and areas were unoccupied.  Calculated savings were 25% on lighting with improved out of hours security.
